How to shell fit at home
- Pull the liner out of the shell.
- Put your bare foot in the empty shell and slide your toes forward until they touch.
- Measure the gap behind your heel with your fingers.
- One to one-and-a-half fingers (15–20 mm) is a performance fit. Two fingers (about 25 mm) is comfort. Three fingers means the boot is too big.
Common questions
Is ski boot size the same as shoe size?
No. Ski boots use mondopoint, which is the length of your foot in centimeters. Most people wear a ski boot 1 to 1.5 mondo sizes smaller than the shoe size they expect, because ski boots are meant to fit snug with no dead space.
Should I size up if my toes touch the front?
Usually not. Toes brushing the front of the liner when you stand upright is normal. When you flex forward into the boot your foot slides back and the toes pull away. If your toes are crushed when flexed, the shell is too short.
What is last width and why does it matter?
Last is the width of the boot at the widest part of the forefoot, measured in millimeters. 97-98mm is a narrow race fit, 99-100mm is a medium performance fit, and 101-104mm is a comfort fit for wide feet.
How do I measure my foot for a ski boot?
Stand on a piece of paper against a wall with a sock on, mark the longest toe, and measure heel to mark in centimeters. That number is your mondopoint. Measure both feet and use the larger one.
